Fae's Captive by Lily Archer5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() I'm really interested in seeing what kind of future she has in this new world. Though she does get hit and overall hurt quite a few times there are times when she succeeds in fighting back. I loved the amount of world build and plot development in this for a novella.įor being thrown in a whole other world Taylor has some spunk to her. I was so surprised by how much I ended up liking this though. Having just finished a novella in a series that's exclusively standalone novellas I wasn't holding out much hope for this book (considering this is a novella-length novel). ![]() You can currently borrow this and book two with your KU subscription if you have one. I am starting the next instalment here immediately. This was actioned packed and also had some interesting secondary characters introduced here. ![]() So as I mentioned this was short and I do believe this and the second book would have been better served as one complete volume rather than two novellas: still I really enjoyed this immensely and even though I don't often give high stars to short reads this made enough of an impression on me that I just had to go with my gut here. ![]() Here she comes to the attention of Leander the Winter King who recognises her as his mate. This is the story of Taylor and Leander: Taylor a human girl finds herself transported to the world of the fae taking the place of another changeling. This one really appealed to me and though of novella length captured my imagination and attention almost instantly here. ![]()

Marlfox5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Eventually two of Mokkan's siblings, Ascrod and Vannan, stole the Abbey's prized Tapestry of their hero, Martin the Warrior. When they came to Mossflower Woods, searching for valuable items to steal for their mother, Queen Silth, they stumbled upon Redwall Abbey. Mokkan was the smartest and most wicked of his siblings, and was the self-proclaimed leader as well. ![]() He was also very intelligent and unpredictable. Marlfoxes are legendary masters of stealth, and can use their natural camouflage to blend in with their surroundings and become virtually invisible. Mokkan, like all Marlfoxes, had grey fur and cold amber eyes, and wielded a small double-headed battle-axe under a dark cloak. Mokkan the Marlfox and his six brothers and sisters were born of the royal Marlfox family on the island of Castle Marl, along with their army of water rats. Mokkan is an anthropomorphic fox and the main villain on the Redwall series book, Marlfox. Oafs! They'll learn that trying to outsmart Marlfoxes is like trying to catch a pawful of smoke! Being the virtuous fools they are they'll expect us to return the babe in exchange for a few trinkets. ![]()

Group christie tate5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Still, she adds, “I’ve talked to so many writers who are like ‘I can’t do this kind of writing - I can’t write what I want to write until my parents die.’ I understand, I couldn’t do this if (the members of the group) didn’t have veto power. “I made a lot of mistakes,” she says now, “and I got lucky.” Tate had, as she explained it herself, “promised away my right to tell my own story.” Before publication, when she attended writing conferences and workshops and told teachers about this deal, they mostly flinched. (Tate agreed.) It could have been worse - the group could have decided they didn’t want to be written about after all, and likely, Tate might have pulled the book entirely. ![]() “So other members of the group confronted me: ‘She gets a pass and I have to be in your book?’ Which is fair.” In the end, none asked her to change a thing - only the wife of a member, who had access to a draft and requested two details come out. One group member asked not to be included at all in Tate’s book - disguised or otherwise - and Tate agreed. Which cuts to the foundational heart of a memoir: Anything in those drafts they didn’t want in, she took out. Still, again, you have to wonder: How do you write so freely about the people with whom you share your ugliest self - and who share their lowest points with you - when you still have those relationships and see each other all the time? Tate’s answer was unusual for a memoir writer: Soon after starting “Group” in 2015, she allowed everyone in her group - including her therapist - to read drafts and request changes. ![]()

Wonder valley a novel5/29/2023 ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, the book is actually quite difficult to come by having only had a few printings, and being currently out of print. I'll be getting ahead of myself but I'll state directly that the movie is excellent, and upon learning that it was based on a novel I immediately went about finding a copy. While it doesn't have dragons, it has plenty of dragoons. One could imagine that fans of series like Game of Thrones, or Wolf Hall would certainly enjoy the historical setting with its power politics, religious conflict, and human drama. The Thirty Years' War doesn’t appear to be popular in the cinema, which is unfortunate, because it's ripe with potential. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Last Valley presented itself as one of the most promising, primarily because it may be the only one. While pursuing more information on the Thirty Year’s War, in addition to reading books on the subject, I decided to pick up a movie set in the period. “The soldiers are here, Father,” Gruber said. What has changed that we have need of soldiers?” ”The shrine of Our Lady has protected this village through years of that pestilence and destruction which fell on other villages like the wrath of God. ![]()

Killing Mr. Griffin by Lois Duncan5/28/2023 ![]() ![]() Shifting viewpoints among the five, their families, and the teacher's wife, Duncan allots the most attention to Susan, the least involved, and she lets her off most easily in the end. (Unknown to the kidnappers, he has been under medication for angina.) The prank is engineered by the stereotypically disturbed and evil Mark, who keeps the others in line, kills co-conspirator Dave's grandmother to keep her quiet, and is stopped just short of killing Susan, a ""little creep"" with glasses who's been lured into a decoy role by virtue of her crush on Dave. Griffin's senior English class decide to teach him a lesson by kidnapping him from the high school parking lot and leaving him bound and gagged in a lonely spot out of town-where, before the students return to free him, the teacher dies.
